Anybody who has even spent a week here in Colorado Springs has felt the strong winds we can have. The wind can spoil a nice afternoon on your patio or deck. As someone who works outside for a living, I would rather work in the cold or heat over a windy day.
What can be done to temper the wind? Is it even possible to have an activity on your patio when the wind won’t cooperate? The good news is that there some things which can lessen the negative effect of wind.
Plantings are one way to buffer the wind. Evergreens can do a great job, providing they are large enough or you can wait for them to grow. A layering of deciduous plants can also block most of the breeze. Some of these solutions can be costly, as large plants can be expensive.
One solution we use at Sundown Landscaping is to design and install a decorative wood screen. The one pictured above can be planted with flowering vines to increase the blockage even more. These cedar screens are also excellent at creating privacy.
